An Iranian man living in Yamhill County man was pulled over and detained Tuesday morning by Department of Homeland Security ICE agents on his way from his house to the gym, according to an Oregonian report released today.
The Oregonian did not report where in Yamhill County the ICE activity took place Tuesday, but a report by the News-Register stated that activity by ICE agents had been reported by Unidos Yamhill County in McMinnville.
The man referenced in the report had sought asylum from Iran in the early 2000’s but was denied in 2002. It’s stated the Yamhill County resident appealed the ruling but the appeal was dismissed in 2004 and he became the subject of a final removal order. But, for some reason, the government had not moved forward with this removal for the last two decades.
The report stated that the Yamhill County man is currently at an ICE detention facility in Tacoma. It’s noted that his lawyer is challenging his detainment but is now seeking to reapply for asylum based on the recent change in circumstances with Iran.
