After being in business for nearly three decades, due to a nationwide restructuring amid bankruptcy, Joann Fabrics is set to close their McMinnville store immently.

Located at 1401 OR-99W in the McMinnville Town Center shopping mall on the northside of town, this business, while closing, was a survivor of sorts outlasting the comings and goings of a Quiznos and a Radio Shack in the same mall. But, alas, no amount of demand for yarn can stop a company’s crushing debt or the inevitable march of hyper-unlocal consolidation of commercial enterprises that end up in collapse and sold off for parts to the highest bidder.

According to managers at the store the day of the announced closure (Feb 12, 2025), they are keeping their normal business hours (9 am to 7 PM, except Sunday 10 am to 6 pm) and plan to stay open as long as they have inventory to sell.

One business’s closure does make room for another business to blossom. However, no word yet on what may occupy this gapping hole on the northside. But, whatever it is, the fabric of McMinnville will never be the same.
